Raisen is a beautiful town that falls under Raisen District of state Madhya Pradesh. The name got its name from massive fort build on sandstone hill. Raisen with a strong fort was an important centre of administration from the period of its foundation from Hindu times. In the 15th century, this fort was ruled by the Sultans of Mandu. After that it was passed to the Rajputs. It was once part of the Nizamat-A-Mashrif district of the Bhopal princely state. Raisen was declared a separate district on 05th May in the year 1950 after the Bhopal State came into being of independent India. This district consists of many famous tourist places which are renowned as a UNESCO world heritage site. Bhimbetka rock shelters is a UNESCO world heritage site that is in Raisen district. The meaning of this UNESCO heritage site named Bhimbetka means "Sitting Place of Bhima"(one of the five brothers of Pandavas that is depicted in the Hindu epic Mahabharata).

Main Attractions
  • Raisen Fort, Raisen: Raisen Fort is one of the main attraction from where the district Raisen got its name. This fort is an exemplary specimen of national integrity and togetherness as one can find Masjids, temples and Mazars located within the same premise. This fort was built in the 15th century by Sultans of Mandu.  
  • Bhimbetka rock shelters, Raisen: Bhimbetka rock shelters is a UNESCO world heritage site located in Raisen district. The meaning of this UNESCO heritage site named Bhimbetka means "Sitting Place of Bhima"(one of the five brothers of Pandavas that is depicted in the Hindu epic Mahabharata). These rocks are an archaeological place of the Paleolithic, showing the initial traces of human life on the Indian subcontinent of the South Asian Stone period.
  • Hazrat Peer Fatehullah Shah Baba, Raisen: It is a beautiful shrine famous for Muslim devotees that was named after Hazrat Peer Fatehhullah Shah Baba. It is considered to be very auspicious amongst them.
